Iran Strikes US Military Targets in Kuwait and Syria
Xinhua News Agency, Tehran/Kuwait City, July 17 - The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated on the 17th that in response to the U.S. attack on Iran the previous day, it has launched a large-scale strike against U.S. military targets located in Kuwait and Syria.
The statement said that the Revolutionary Guard attacked U.S. bases in Kuwait, targeting a detection and tracking radar, several major weapon depots, two HIMARS rocket artillery launch sites, and an ammunition depot. This strike resulted in a fire at the U.S. base in Kuwait.
The Kuwaiti military stated on the 17th that Iran launched multiple drone attacks on Kuwaiti military facilities, resulting in injuries to several soldiers. Earlier that day, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy reported that a power generation and seawater desalination facility in the country was attacked by Iran, causing severe damage to the facility and several generator units.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the 17th condemning the aforementioned attacks, stating that they violate Kuwaiti sovereignty and international law, and warned that continued attacks could further undermine regional stability. Kuwait has the right to take necessary measures to maintain national security.
The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in another statement, said it launched a raid on the U.S. special operations command center located in the Tanf area of Syria, destroying a radar system and several special operations helicopters. The statement also emphasized that Iran still fully controls the Strait of Hormuz, and as long as the U.S. continues its aggression, there will be no oil or gas exports through the region.
