Xinhua News Agency, Tehran, July 26 (Reporter Chen Xiao, Shadati) According to a report from Iran's Mehr News Agency on the 26th, the governor of Gilan Province, Hadi Haghshenas, stated that an Iranian merchant ship was attacked recently at an anchorage outside the port on the Volga River leading to the Caspian Sea, resulting in 1 death and 3 injuries on board.

Haghshenas said that the attacked vessel was carrying cargo such as steel and was en route from the Russian port of Astrakhan to Iran's Anzali port. The attack completely destroyed the ship's bridge, rendering the vessel unable to continue its voyage. He did not disclose what type of attack the ship encountered. Relevant Iranian authorities are investigating the incident.
