Israeli Army Strikes Southern Lebanon Again
On August 21, Xinhua News Agency reported from Jerusalem (reporters Pang Xinyi and Chen Junqing) that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement on the afternoon of the 21st, saying that the IDF carried out a strike on a building within the so-called "security buffer zone" in southern Lebanon.
The IDF stated that earlier that day, several "suspects" were found entering a building in the Barashit area within the "security buffer zone" in southern Lebanon, posing a "threat" to IDF soldiers, and the IDF subsequently launched a strike on the building.
The IDF also stated that it would continue operations to eliminate the "imminent threat," but at the same time, the IDF "remains committed to adhering to the agreements reached between Israel and Lebanon."
On June 26, a trilateral negotiation between Lebanon, Israel, and the United States concluded in Washington, D.C., announcing a framework agreement. According to the agreement, the IDF is to withdraw from certain areas in southern Lebanon, with the Lebanese army taking over local security affairs. However, after the agreement was reached, the IDF has still carried out multiple strikes on targets within Lebanese territory.
