Japanese media: A U.S. soldier stationed in Japan arrested by Japanese police on suspicion of theft
Xinhua News Agency, Tokyo, May 17 (Reporter Chen Ze'an, Liang Chen) According to a report by Kyodo News, a U.S. Navy soldier stationed in Japan was arrested by local police on the 17th on suspicion of stealing a wallet and other items.
The report stated that the incident occurred around 2:15 AM local time on the 17th (1:15 AM Beijing time). The suspect allegedly stole a paper bag containing a wallet, smartphone, and other items valued at approximately 105,000 yen (about 4,503 yuan) from a taxi in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. The taxi driver called the police, stating that a man suddenly got into the car and had a dispute with a woman inside, and then stole the paper bag.
The report also mentioned that this U.S. soldier is assigned to the U.S. Navy base in Sasebo and has denied some of the charges.
