Jun Zhengping: Firmly Oppose the Japanese Government's Use of "Tomahawks" to Threaten Peace and Stability in the Asia-Pacific

On March 13, the Japanese Minister of Defense announced that U.S.-made "Tomahawk" and Norwegian-made JSM missiles have begun delivery to the Self-Defense Forces. This marks the first time foreign offensive missiles have been deployed in Japan, signifying a dangerous step in the construction of its so-called "counterstrike capability." What is called "defense" is, in fact, offensive. The "Tomahawk" has a range of over 1,600 kilometers, and the JSM can also strike targets 500 kilometers away. Japan's acquisition of such heavy weaponry indicates its reckless acceleration down the path of "remilitarization." As the world becomes more chaotic, peace in the Asia-Pacific region becomes increasingly precious. The Japanese side ignores the widespread concerns of the international community, falsely claiming that it "does not pose a threat to other countries," which is nothing but self-deception and a cover-up. History has long proven that offensive weapons in the hands of Japanese militarists will only be abused without restraint, bringing severe disasters to the people of the world. The international community must remain highly vigilant of Japan's dangerous trends, jointly resist its military expansionist behaviors, and resolutely safeguard the hard-won peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
