Lebanon Proposes Ceasefire to Israel, No Response Yet
Xinhua News Agency, Beirut, April 5 (Reporters Cao Changhao and Shen Feng) - Lebanese President Aoun stated in a speech on the 5th that the Lebanese government has proposed a ceasefire initiative to Israel but has not yet received a response. He called for an end to the conflict through diplomatic means to alleviate the suffering of the people.
Aoun indicated that the outbreak of war between Lebanon and Israel is not the will of the Lebanese government and people. The Lebanese side is currently focusing on three priorities: maintaining domestic peace, assisting internally displaced persons within Lebanon, and strengthening diplomatic contacts to end the war.
Aoun warned that domestic peace in Lebanon is a "red line," and the Lebanese security forces and military are prepared to respond to any attempts to incite internal strife.
According to statistics from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, since the resumption of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel on March 2, Israel's ongoing attacks on Lebanon have resulted in 1,461 deaths and 4,430 injuries. In his speech, Aoun questioned, "Is war really a better option compared to negotiations?" He stated that negotiations are not surrender, and diplomacy is not concession; war will ultimately end in the form of negotiations.
Aoun announced that the Lebanese government has proposed an initiative to Israel: first achieving a ceasefire to pave the way for subsequent negotiations. Currently, the Lebanese side has not received a response.
