Lithuania to receive U.S.-made night vision gear

The U.S. Army has awarded Nightline Inc. a $12.8 million contract to supply commercial equivalent AN/PVS-14 night vision monoculars to Lithuania, according to a Department of War contract announcement.

The Tennessee-based company will provide the devices along with extended warranties, accessories, test sets and tool sets. The award carries a total cumulative face value of $13.3 million.

Work will be performed at Nightline’s facility in Mountain City, Tennessee, with an estimated completion date of December 31, 2030. The Army obligated the full $12.8 million in fiscal 2026 Foreign Military Sales funds for Lithuania at the time of the award. Army Contracting Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, is managing the contract.

The AN/PVS-14 is a single-tube monocular night vision device that has served as the standard-issue night optic for U.S. forces for decades. It can be handheld, helmet-mounted or weapon-mounted, and it allows a user to retain natural night-adapted vision in one eye while viewing surroundings through the illuminated eyepiece in the other. The device typically weighs around 14 ounces (397 grams), offers a 40-degree field of view and runs on standard AA batteries. It has also become the preferred night vision monocular for many NATO forces beyond the United States.

Lithuania, a NATO member bordering Russia’s Kaliningrad exclave and Belarus, has expanded defense spending and equipment purchases in recent years. The Foreign Military Sales program allows allied and partner nations to purchase U.S. military equipment through the U.S. government rather than negotiating directly with manufacturers, with the Pentagon managing procurement, contracting and delivery on the foreign government’s behalf.

The contract does not specify the number of night vision devices Lithuania will receive under the award or a delivery schedule leading up to the 2030 completion date.
