Lockheed Martin and Insta Sign MoU to Boost Defence Innovation
Lockheed Martin and Finnish technology company Insta have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to deepen defence innovation, strengthen industrial resilience and capacity, and deliver solutions aimed at sustaining jobs and delivering positive economic benefits on both sides of the Atlantic.
The agreement, signed by Jay Pitman, president of Lockheed Martin International, and Niklas Mattsson, Vice Chairman of the Board at Insta takes effect immediately and establishes a framework for joint planning, development and exploration of opportunities across mission-critical areas including command and control, sensor integrations and sustainment, among others.
“This new agreement supports the deep strategic connection between the United States and Finland which includes military level, bilateral cooperation that is thriving,” said Jay Pitman, president of Lockheed Martin International.
“It underlines Lockheed Martin’s longstanding commitment to advancing transatlantic security by working with allies to develop and deliver cutting-edge capabilities that keep our citizens safe.”

The expansion of successful collaboration beyond the F-35 program and Finland is significant and enhances security of supply”, said Petri Reiman, Senior Vice President at Insta.
Work already under way includes integrating Insta systems into Lockheed Martin’s military modelling and simulation environment, adding encryption for distributed operations, and applying Nordic cyber expertise to meet the needs of the U.S. and its NATO allies in Europe.
In counter-uncrewed air systems and uncrewed aerial systems, the agreement allows both companies to merge their expertise in the area.
Lockheed Martin already works with several Finnish companies through Finland’s F-35 programme, embedding local industry in the global F-35 supply chain and sustainment network while supporting high-value jobs and boosting industrial capacity in both the U.S. and Finland.
The first of Finland’s 64 F-35A fighters was rolled out at a ceremony attended by Finnish Minister of Defence, Antti Häkkänen and Commander of the Finnish Air Force, Major General Timo Herranen at a ceremony in Fort Worth, Texas, on December 16 last year.
