Navier’s hydrofoil boat completes U.S. military testing exercise
Navier’s N30 Quanta-D hydrofoil vessel completed a round of testing with U.S. Department of War customers last week, running mission profiles in front of special operations evaluators, the company said.
The San Francisco Bay Area maritime technology company said the exercise, called Technical Experimentation 26-3, tested the boat’s performance in real mission scenarios. Navier did not disclose which specific mission profiles were run or where the testing took place.
The Quanta-D is a hybrid diesel-electric hydrofoil, part of the same N30 platform family as Navier’s earlier all-electric N30 boat. The N30 lifts its 30-foot hull above the water on three actively controlled foils, reducing drag and cutting fuel use compared with a conventional hull, according to the company.
Navier said the Quanta-D held pitch and roll control to less than 1 degree in sea state 4, and controlled its altitude above the water to within 2 centimeters (0.8 inches). The company also said the vessel’s hybrid diesel-electric system handles peak power loads of 100 kilowatts at 400 volts.
“Persistence at sea is no longer the privilege of big ships,” the company said in its announcement.
Navier has previously said its Quanta-R variant, a hybrid-electric version of the N30 platform unveiled in November 2025, can travel more than 700 nautical miles (1,296 km) at 20 knots in waves up to 4 feet (1.2 meters), more than the roughly 400 nautical mile (741 km) range typical of comparable gas-powered 30-foot boats. Navier has not disclosed whether the Quanta-D’s range matches that figure.
The N30 platform’s foil system adjusts flaps on each foil up to 50 times per second to respond to wave conditions, according to a May 2026 profile of the company in Arena Magazine. Navier was founded in 2020 by CEO Sampriti Bhattacharyya, who previously worked on underwater drones at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The company is separately preparing an unmanned Quanta-D for an attempted unrefueled Atlantic crossing later this year, targeting roughly 2,000 nautical miles (3,704 km) without refueling, according to Arena Magazine.
Navier said it plans additional announcements about the Quanta-D’s military applications in the coming month.
