In the ranks of the People's Liberation Army's Joint Logistics Support Force, there is a group of officers and soldiers who have long been stationed in the remote mountains, befriending the mountains and coexisting with the flora, guarding important strategic materials such as weapons and ammunition for the motherland.

Miao Xuejian is one such logistics warehouse soldier. Having participated in the 2025 September 3rd military parade, he returned home with honors to the mountains, continuing to guard the warehouse for the motherland, writing a glorious chapter in his ordinary and secretive position.

In a certain area of western Liaoning, a warehouse of the Joint Logistics Support Force welcomed the last batch of materials before the Spring Festival. Among the soldiers responsible for loading and unloading the materials, the camera of a reporter from the grassroots New Year coverage found the interview subject, Miao Xuejian.

Warehouse of the Joint Logistics Support Force Miao Xuejian: As warehouse keepers, we first need to register the materials upon entry, verify the quantity, quality, and accompanying materials, and then conduct temperature and humidity observations and registrations.

Enlisted in 2016, Miao Xuejian is a warehouse keeper. The warehouse stores various types of weapons and ammunition, and his daily task is to ensure the proper management of these munitions and accurately complete the receipt and dispatch of materials. Although the work is monotonous and repetitive, there can be no negligence. Whenever an order is issued, Miao Xuejian can quickly find the required batch among tens of thousands of neatly stacked ammunition boxes, and after completing the entire verification process, he sends the materials to the front lines for training and combat. Over the years, he and his comrades have never made a single mistake.

Warehouse of the Joint Logistics Support Force Miao Xuejian: To become a qualified warehouse keeper, I believe two or three years is definitely not enough, because our knowledge of storage and basic ammunition knowledge is constantly being updated and iterated, so we progress in learning and learn in progress.

On September 3, 2025, a grand military parade was held at Tiananmen Square. Miao Xuejian, as one of the representatives of the warehouse soldiers, proudly walked past Tiananmen, receiving the inspection of the Party and the people, making him the first warehouse keeper from the mountains to accept the motherland's inspection since the establishment of the warehouse.

Warehouse of the Joint Logistics Support Force Miao Xuejian: Participating in the parade is a lifetime honor. We must thank this era for allowing us to step out of these mountains, but I will always remember that I am a warehouse keeper in the mountains.

As the Spring Festival approaches, Miao Xuejian's wife comes to visit, bringing with her Miao Xuejian's commemorative medal from the parade.

Warehouse of the Joint Logistics Support Force Miao Xuejian: This is the commemorative medal I wore on the day of the task, and the parade commemorative medal issued after the task was completed. I handed it over to her when I returned. The main reason for bringing it this time is that a batch of new recruits has arrived at the unit, and I want to use this to give them an educational lesson, hoping they can persevere on their military journey.

This year marks the tenth year of Miao Xuejian's military service, which means he needs to choose between staying in the army and returning home. With the answer already in his heart, Miao Xuejian came to the statue of Yang Xiyuan in the warehouse area to solemnly report to the old director.

Warehouse of the Joint Logistics Support Force Miao Xuejian: Old Director, I have decided to continue to stay in the mountains, to bring along more excellent backbones and soldiers, and to continue to carry forward the spirit of the warehouse soul of our old mountain valley.

Yang Xiyuan was the first director of this warehouse. To build a strategic rear warehouse for the new China, he led the officers and soldiers to take root in western Liaoning, pouring his lifelong efforts into this mountainous area. Before his death, he instructed his family to bury his ashes on the cliff of the warehouse area, continuing to stand guard for the motherland.

Warehouse of the Joint Logistics Support Force Miao Xuejian: The old director is a spiritual support in our hearts, and he has always inspired us to continue to stand guard in this mountain. I never thought I would serve in such a place; the environment was a shock to me. Then we had an educational lesson where the old director said, please bury my ashes here; I want to stand guard for the warehouse and do my duty well. This story moved me. So I thought I would give it a try to stay. After I became a non-commissioned officer, my feelings changed again because I had to come to the new recruits, and I had to lead them.

As the Lunar New Year approaches, the teams at the foot of the mountain and the posts responsible for patrolling and duty on the mountain light up colorful lights and red lanterns at night, while the warehouse area remains quiet and dark. As the squad leader of the post, Miao Xuejian turns on his flashlight and begins the night patrol with his comrades. This is a patrol route manned 24 hours a day, requiring a round trip of more than ten kilometers. The vast starry sky and silent mountains make human figures appear very small, while the flashlight's beam casts the silhouette of the warehouse keeper as very tall.
