Poland Signs Agreement for €44 Billion EU Defense Loan Disbursement
According to a report by Reference News Network on May 11, Deutsche Presse-Agentur reported on May 8 that after a long period of domestic political disputes, Poland has signed an agreement for the disbursement of a substantial EU defense loan.
Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak and Finance Minister Andrzej Domański signed the agreement on May 8. This agreement will allocate nearly 44 billion euros for the modernization of the Polish military.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated in Warsaw, “This is a turning point in the history of Poland and the EU.” He also mentioned that the relevant loans will make Poland safer during this difficult and risky time.
EU Commissioner for Defense and Space Affairs, Andrius Kubilius, emphasized that Poland is taking the lead in shouldering responsibility for its own defense, the eastern flank of Europe, and Europe as a whole.
According to the provisions of the "European Security Action" instrument, the EU will provide a total of 150 billion euros in low-interest loans to enhance the defense capabilities of member states. Poland is currently the largest beneficiary.

Ultimately, the Polish government passed a resolution authorizing the Defense Minister and Finance Minister to sign agreements related to the "European Security Action" instrument.
