Rheinmetall awarded the maintenance contract for customs vessels

The Naval Systems Division has been commissioned by the Federal Customs Administration to carry out repair and maintenance work on four new LNG-powered customs vessels. To this end, a multi-year framework agreement has been agreed with the client, covering maintenance, repairs and emergency services.

The service contract, which covers comprehensive support for technical issues during operation and regular maintenance at the berths in Lubmin, Neustadt i.H., Wilhelmshaven and Emden, includes one 67-metre customs vessel and three 55-metre customs vessels. The latter were built at Peene-Werft shipyard and handed over to the client last year, on schedule and within the contractually agreed timeframe.

“Our aim is to support our customers as a reliable partner not only during the construction phase, but throughout the entire life cycle of their vessels. The new framework agreement is important evidence of this and, at the same time, a confirmation of our strategy to closely link new-build expertise with our service offerings,” says Tim Wagner, CEO of the Naval Systems Division.

For the customer, this service package offers the advantage of being able to draw on the shipyard’s comprehensive knowledge of the vessels. Particularly in the case of the three vessels built at Rheinmetall’s Wolgast site, the existing expertise gained from new-build projects can be specifically utilised for maintenance, repairs and technical optimisation.

By concluding this framework agreement, Rheinmetall is strengthening its service business and further expanding its long-term cooperation with its customer.

The seagoing vessels, constructed from aluminium, are primarily tasked with controlling and monitoring cross-border goods traffic within the territorial waters and the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Federal Republic of Germany.
