On June 5 local time, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that, following negotiations for a prisoner exchange, 185 Russian soldiers have been released from a prisoner camp controlled by Ukraine and have returned. In exchange, Russia handed over 185 captured personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to Ukraine. Additionally, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that this prisoner exchange operation was conducted under the mediation of the UAE.

On the same day, Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that Ukraine and Russia conducted a new round of prisoner exchanges, with 185 Ukrainian soldiers returning home, along with one civilian who was also released.
