Russia begins using new jet-powered attack drone

Russia has begun using a previously unseen jet-powered one-way attack drone. Such drones were spotted after a Russian military unit released footage showing the system striking a Ukrainian HIMARS launcher during an operation recorded earlier this week.

The video was published by the unit operating the reconnaissance drone and captured the moment the target was detected and coordinates were passed to the strike element.

According to the Russian unit’s description in the footage, the reconnaissance drone identified the Ukrainian HIMARS and transmitted its location to operators of a new attack drone not previously observed in the conflict. The recording shows a fast, arrow-shaped airframe approaching the launcher at high speed under first-person-view control before impact. The footage represents the first confirmed appearance of this mystery jet-powered one-way attack drone.

As shown in the video, the drone features a swept-wing layout, a small jet engine, and a guidance setup consistent with FPV operation. The Russian unit stated that the drone was able to pursue a moving target, suggesting a level of responsiveness typically associated with higher-cost precision munitions.
