Russia claims Ukraine violated ceasefire arrangements; Ukraine claims Russian troops shelled Donetsk region under Ukrainian control.

According to a report from the Xinhua News Agency in Moscow/Kyiv on May 10 (reporters Bao Nuomin and Li Dongxu), the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on the 10th that during the Victory Day of the Great Patriotic War, Ukraine violated the ceasefire arrangements and launched attacks on civilians within Russian territory and on Russian military positions located in the special military operation zone.

The report stated that from midnight on May 8, the Russian armed forces in the special military operation zone strictly adhered to the ceasefire arrangements and did not launch strikes against the Ukrainian armed forces. However, in the past 24 hours, the Russian air defense system shot down 57 Ukrainian drones. A total of 16,071 incidents of ceasefire violations by Ukraine were recorded in the special military operation zone, including attacks on positions and drone strikes.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that Russia responded to Ukraine's violations of the ceasefire with reciprocal actions and launched retaliatory strikes.

Vadim Filashkin, head of the military administration in the Donetsk region controlled by Ukraine, stated on social media on the 10th that in the past day, Russian forces conducted 18 shelling attacks on frontline cities in Donetsk, resulting in 4 civilian injuries.

Filashkin noted that the focus of the Russian shelling was on Pokrovsk and Kramatorsk, with multiple residential areas being shelled. Local government departments urgently evacuated 421 people.

On the 4th, Russia announced a ceasefire from May 8 to 9 to commemorate the Victory Day of the Great Patriotic War on May 9, hoping that Ukraine would follow suit. Ukrainian President Zelensky subsequently announced that Ukraine decided to unilaterally implement a ceasefire starting from midnight on the 6th and called on Russia to take genuine measures to end the war. Russian presidential aide Ushakov stated on the evening of the 8th that Russia agreed to the U.S. proposal to extend the Russia-Ukraine ceasefire until May 11 and supported the U.S. proposal for both sides to exchange 1,000 captured personnel before the 11th. Zelensky stated on social media that within the framework of negotiations mediated by the U.S., Russia agreed to the plan for mutual exchange of prisoners of war with Ukraine, and a ceasefire should be achieved from May 9 to 11.
