Russian Defense Ministry: Ceasefire in Ukraine from Midnight on the 8th to the 10th
On May 7, Xinhua News Agency reported from Moscow that the Russian Ministry of Defense announced via social media that in commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, Russia will implement a ceasefire in the special military operation zone from midnight on the 8th until the 10th, and will cease strikes on deep targets within Ukraine. However, if Ukraine violates the ceasefire, Russia will respond accordingly.
The announcement stated that during the aforementioned period, all Russian military units located in the special military operation zone will completely cease combat operations. At the same time, Russia will stop long-range strikes on the Ukrainian armed forces and military-industrial related facilities deep within Ukraine.
The Russian Ministry of Defense pointed out that if Ukraine violates the ceasefire and attempts to strike targets within Russian territory, the Russian armed forces will respond in kind. Russia once again issued a warning to civilians in Kyiv and staff of foreign diplomatic missions located in the city: leave Kyiv in a timely manner if necessary.
On the 4th, Russia announced that in commemoration of the Victory Day of the Great Patriotic War on May 9, a ceasefire will be implemented from the 8th to the 9th, hoping that Ukraine will follow suit. Ukrainian President Zelensky subsequently announced that Ukraine has decided to unilaterally implement a ceasefire starting from midnight on the 6th and called on Russia to take genuine measures to end the war.
