Sultan Hassanal of Brunei Meets Dong Jun

On July 28, Sultan Hassanal of Brunei met with visiting Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun in Bandar Seri Begawan.

Hassanal stated that the relationship between the two countries is deep-rooted, and both sides are committed to building a community with a shared future. The Brunei side firmly adheres to the one-China policy, appreciates China's support for ASEAN's central role, and sincerely thanks China for its support in promoting the "Vision 2035." He hopes that the two countries can strengthen cooperation on regional issues of mutual concern. Defense cooperation is an important pillar of the strategic partnership between the two countries. In recent years, the two militaries have achieved fruitful cooperation in areas such as institutional dialogue, personnel exchanges, and education and training. The Brunei side welcomes the deepening of exchanges and cooperation between the two militaries and looks forward to more visits from Chinese naval vessels.

Dong Jun said that this year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, political mutual trust, economic mutual benefit, cultural exchanges, and multilateral cooperation have developed deeply, setting an example of equal treatment and mutual benefit between large and small countries. Currently, the cooperation between the Chinese and Bruneian militaries faces important opportunities, and both sides should seize the momentum to comprehensively enhance cooperation in various fields, contributing more practical results to building a community with a shared future and opening up new prospects for bilateral relations. Peace in the South China Sea is related to the common interests of regional countries, and China is willing to strengthen practical cooperation with Brunei in maritime security and jointly maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.
