Teledyne FLIR Defense releases new compact counter-UAS radar
WASHINGTON — Teledyne FLIR Defense has unveiled a new small counter-unmanned aerial system radar to aid forces in detection and tracking threats, the company announced today.
Dubbed Ranger R10-3DX, the CUAS was designed to support a raft of missions such as counter-drone, force protection, airport security, border security, coastal surveillance and others, the company said in an announcement.
“Small unmanned aircraft continue to present growing security challenges across military installations, airports, and other key infrastructure sites worldwide,” Rob Tarantino, senior vice president of surveillance at Teledyne FLIR Defense, said in the company’s release. “The Ranger R10-3DX gives operators an affordable, compact, and highly capable radar solution that delivers the early warning and tracking performance needed to counter evolving drone threats.”
The system uses “advanced digital beam-forming technology” and “provides continuous wide-area coverage and rapid threat detection,” the company said, all within a small system. It uses artificial intelligence for target classification, tracking multiple targets simultaneously, to distinguish between drones, planes, bird, people and vehicles while maintaining a small size.
The Ranger R10-3DX is capable of detecting micro drones as far away as three km (1.86 miles), pedestrians beyond six kilometers and vehicles at over 12 kilometers, Teledyne said. It can be outfitted for fixed-site installation or on mobile platforms, to include austere environments.
