Closer cooperation can reduce barriers, improve interoperability and help Nordic countries address shared security needs.

Terma has joined the Defense Track of Nordic Compass, the pan-Nordic industrial alliance launched in May 2026. Working alongside Ericsson, Kongsberg, Nokia, Patria and Saab, Terma will help explore how closer industrial cooperation can strengthen Nordic and European defense capabilities.

With all Nordic countries now members of NATO, there is an opportunity to make cooperation across borders easier and more effective. Closer cooperation could help identify and reduce barriers to working across Nordic borders, make technologies from different suppliers easier to integrate, and strengthen countries’ ability to operate together and jointly address current and emerging hybrid threats.

“The Nordic countries face many shared security challenges and have defense industries with complementary strengths. We see considerable potential in making it easier to work together: reducing barriers to cross-border cooperation, improving interoperability and exploring how we can better protect the infrastructure and functions our societies depend on. Nordic Compass gives industry a platform to help turn that potential into practical initiatives,” says Henriette Hallberg Thygesen, President and CEO of Terma.

For Terma, Nordic Compass provides an opportunity to explore these possibilities with industrial partners and governments. Terma will bring its experience in systems integration and industrial partnerships to discussions on how Nordic technologies and expertise can work together to meet shared operational needs.

Terma sees the Nordic region as a strategic home market and closer Nordic cooperation as a natural part of its wider European engagement. Stronger regional cooperation can help build European capacity and security of supply while supporting the objectives of NATO and the EU.

The Nordic Compass Defense Track is chaired by former Finnish Defense Minister Jyri Häkämies. The alliance’s first initiatives will be presented at the Nordic Compass Summit in Gothenburg on 4–5 November 2026.
