On June 24, Xinhua News Agency reported from Pyongyang (Reporter Wang Tianliao) that the commissioning ceremony for the new multi-purpose destroyer "Choi Hyun" was grandly held on the 23rd at the port of Nampo, North Korea, with Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, in attendance.

The report stated that the "Choi Hyun" destroyer has completed a combat capability assessment test program lasting one year and two months and has officially entered service with the Korean People's Army Navy.

In his congratulatory speech at the ceremony, Kim Jong Un said that the changes in the North Korean Navy are not merely about the enlargement of vessels and modernization of equipment, but involve changes in status, mission, and operational waters. He stated that the North Korean Navy is developing into a military branch equipped with strategic means.
