Xinhua News Agency, Berlin, October 1 - German Defense Minister Pistorius announced on the 1st that in order to adapt to changes in modern combat patterns, the Bundeswehr will officially form its first drone combat unit in 2027.

Pistorius stated during an inspection of the Bergen military training area in Lower Saxony that this decision was made based on experiences from the battlefield in Ukraine, emphasizing that to gain the initiative in future ground operations, it is essential to master and utilize unmanned systems in combat.

According to reports, the unit will be equipped with aerial drones and ground unmanned combat systems, with a maximum operational radius of up to 500 kilometers, and will include an "electronic warfare operational unit." The initial personnel strength of the unit will be about 300, with plans to expand to approximately 600, although the location of the unit has not yet been determined.
