The U.S. military announces the completion of transferring detained ISIS members from Syria to Iraq.

On February 13, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington that the U.S. Central Command, responsible for U.S. military operations in the Middle East, announced that the U.S. military has completed the transfer of members of the extremist organization "Islamic State" held in Syria to Iraq.

The U.S. Central Command stated that the transfer operation from northeastern Syria to Iraq was completed on the night of the 12th. Thus, during the 23-day transfer operation, the U.S. military successfully transported over 5,700 adult male members of the "Islamic State" from Syria to detention facilities in Iraq.

On January 18 of this year, the Syrian transitional government reached an agreement with the "Syrian Democratic Forces," led by Syrian Kurdish armed groups, which would be responsible for transferring the camps and administrative institutions holding "Islamic State" members to the transitional government. On the 19th, a jailbreak occurred at the Shaddadi prison in Hasakah province, managed by the "Syrian Democratic Forces."

On January 21, the U.S. Central Command stated that the U.S. military began transferring "Islamic State" members held in northeastern Syria to Iraq that day, to ensure that "terrorists remain in secure detention facilities," with plans to ultimately transfer no more than 7,000 individuals. The Iraqi military reported on February 7 that Iraq had received 2,250 "Islamic State" members transferred from Syria and had initiated judicial procedures to conduct investigations.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in London, the "Islamic State" members transferred by the U.S. military came from prisons that the U.S. considered to have weak security. There are still some "Islamic State" members held in areas controlled by Syrian Kurdish armed groups.
