The U.S. military transfers troops from a base in Syria to Iraq.

Xinhua News Agency, Damascus, February 23 (Reporter Ji Ze, Lin Jianjie) According to a report from Syrian television on the 23rd, U.S. troops stationed at the Kasrak military base in the northeastern Syrian province of Hasakah are being redeployed to Iraq.

The report did not provide further details on the U.S. military's actions. Some media outlets have stated that the Kasrak military base is one of the largest bases for U.S.-led operations against the "Islamic State" in Syria. Earlier this month, the Syrian transitional government's Ministry of Defense took over the Shaddadi military base in Hasakah province and the Tanf military base in southern Syria after coordinating with the U.S.

Additionally, according to a recent report by the U.S. Wall Street Journal, the United States is withdrawing approximately 1,000 soldiers from Syria to end a decade-long military presence there. U.S. forces are expected to withdraw from the remaining bases in Syria within the next two months.

In September 2014, the United States convened a coalition of multiple countries to form an international coalition to combat the "Islamic State," conducting airstrikes against "Islamic State" targets in Syria and Iraq. In 2015, the U.S. began its military presence in Syria.

After a dramatic change in the Syrian political situation in December 2024, the Syrian transitional government improved relations with the United States. Subsequently, the Syrian side signed a political cooperation declaration with the U.S.-led international coalition against the "Islamic State," confirming Syria's partnership status in combating terrorism and maintaining regional stability.
