Trump says he will strike Iran in response to attacks on U.S. troops in the Middle East.

On July 29, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington (reporters Huang Qiang and Xu Jianmei) that U.S. President Trump stated that he would launch strikes against Iran in response to its attacks on U.S. troops stationed in the Middle East.

In an interview with a Fox News reporter, Trump said, "We will strike them hard. They will suffer heavy losses." He also mentioned that he watched real-time video of the U.S. military's interception operations and stated that the U.S. actions were to "defend the region." Trump also indicated that dialogue with Iran would continue.

When asked about the airstrikes by U.S. and Saudi Arabian forces against Iraqi militia groups, Trump said that these strikes were coordinated with the Iraqi government and indicated that further warnings to "Iranian proxies" were being considered.

On the 28th, the U.S. Central Command announced on social media that Iran had launched a missile attack against U.S. troops stationed in the Middle East that day, and the U.S. military intercepted all incoming missiles. Subsequently, the U.S. Central Command released another statement saying that U.S. and Saudi forces had struck "Iranian-backed" targets in Iraq.
