Turkey Reveals Details of "Lightning Khan" Missile

According to a report by Reference News on May 13, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced details about the "Lightning Khan" long-range ballistic missile at the Turkey 2026 International Defense, Aviation, and Aerospace Exhibition held this week, as reported by the U.S. Defense News Weekly website on May 8.

It was reported that Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler stated at a press conference on the 7th: "As Turkey's first liquid-fueled missile, the 'Lightning Khan' missile is an important technological milestone. It is capable of hypersonic flight and is our country's longest-range missile."

According to information provided by the Turkish Ministry of Defense, the "Lightning Khan" missile uses hydrazine as fuel and nitrogen tetroxide as an oxidizer. The Turkish Ministry of Defense stated that the missile can carry a warhead weighing 3 tons and has a range of 6,000 kilometers.

For Turkey, the development of propellants is a significant technological challenge, as these chemicals have not been produced domestically before.

The director of the Turkish Ministry of Defense's research and development center stated that Turkey is now capable of mass-producing missile propellants and using them for the "Lightning Khan" missile.
