UAE Foreign Minister Discusses Drone Attack Incident with IAEA Director General
On the 17th local time, UAE Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah spoke on the phone with International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Grossi.
During the call, Abdullah strongly condemned an unwarranted "terrorist attack" that occurred that day: a generator outside the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Zayed City area of Abu Dhabi caught fire following a drone attack. The incident did not result in any casualties and did not affect the local nuclear radiation safety levels.
Abdullah stated that attacks targeting civilian facilities and critical infrastructure are a blatant violation of international law. He emphasized that the UAE has the full right under international law to respond to these terrorist attacks and to take all necessary measures to maintain national security, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens.
The two sides also discussed the cooperative relationship between the UAE and the International Atomic Energy Agency, as well as how to further strengthen cooperation in multiple areas to support the peaceful use of nuclear energy and ensure compliance with the highest international safety, security, and non-proliferation standards.
