Ukraine claims Russian military launches new round of airstrikes, 18 injured in capital Kyiv

Xinhua News Agency, Kyiv, September 17 (Reporter Li Dongxu) - The Ukrainian Air Force stated on social media on the 17th that from the evening of the 16th to the early morning of the 17th, the Russian military launched a new round of airstrikes against Ukraine, with Russian missiles and drones hitting 36 locations within Ukraine, and an additional 5 locations struck by missile or drone debris. The main targets of the airstrikes were the capital Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and Odesa Oblast.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that by 8 a.m., Ukrainian air defense and electronic warfare units had intercepted and suppressed 131 various types of drones. As of the time of this report, the Ukrainian air defense early warning system indicated that Russian airstrikes were still ongoing.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated on social media on the morning of the 17th that the airstrikes launched by the Russian military against Kyiv had resulted in 18 injuries, and rescue personnel were organizing rescue efforts on-site. Facilities such as office buildings, warehouses, residential buildings, and gas stations in the Dnipro, Sviatoshynskyi, and Solomianskyi districts were attacked, and there were multiple instances of water supply interruptions in the Solomianskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi districts.

At 2:13 to 2:20 a.m. local time on the 17th, Xinhua reporters in Kyiv heard two rounds of intense explosions, and around 2:20 a.m., saw thick smoke rising from multiple locations in the Dnipro district of Kyiv.
