Ukraine suffers heavy casualties from 73 Russian missile strikes; Russia confirms large-scale air assault.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on June 2 local time that in the early hours of that day, the Russian military launched a large-scale strike using long-range precision weapons against defense industrial complex enterprises in Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Dnipro, as well as fuel and transportation infrastructure used by the Ukrainian military and military airports in Poltava, Khmelnytskyi, and Sumy regions—“the strike objectives have been achieved, and all designated targets have been hit.”
The Russian side stated that a school in the Luhansk region was attacked by Ukrainian drones in the early hours of May 22, resulting in 21 deaths and over 40 injuries. The Ukrainian military denied attacking the school. After the Russian military carried out retaliatory strikes against Ukraine on May 24 using "Zircon" hypersonic missiles and other weapons, they announced on May 25 that they would continue the strikes while urging foreign diplomats and citizens to evacuate Kyiv.
