Ukrainian Army Strikes Russian Natural Gas Refinery and Helium Plant
On June 24, Xinhua News Agency reported from Kyiv (Reporter Li Dongxu) that the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces stated on social media that in the early hours of the day, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a natural gas refinery and a helium plant in Russia's Orenburg region.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces indicated that the operation took place more than 1,200 kilometers from the front lines of Ukraine, and both plants have caught fire, with damage assessments currently underway. Additionally, the Ukrainian military also targeted a drone warehouse in Belgorod Oblast, Russia.
The Ukrainian side stated that the Orenburg natural gas refinery is used for the separation and purification of natural gas and sulfur, with an annual processing capacity of 45 billion cubic meters. The separated sulfur can be used for the production of explosives. Furthermore, the Orenburg helium plant is the only helium production facility within Russia, and helium is an essential rare material for the defense industry and aerospace sector. In August of last year, the plant was previously attacked by drones from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense's Main Intelligence Directorate.
