UNIFIL reports multiple drone explosions threatening the safety of peacekeeping personnel

Xinhua News Agency, Beirut, May 14 (Reporter Shen Feng) The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) issued a statement on the 13th, saying that there have been multiple drone explosion incidents recently at and near the UNIFIL base in southern Lebanon, endangering the safety of peacekeeping personnel and causing damage to facilities.

The statement said that several drones, suspected to be launched by Hezbollah, exploded near the UNIFIL headquarters in the town of Nakoura in southern Lebanon on the 11th and 12th, while Israeli forces were possibly active in the area.

According to the statement, three drones exploded just meters away from the UNIFIL headquarters on the 11th. On the 12th, another drone explosion occurred in the same area, with one drone exploding inside the UNIFIL headquarters, causing damage to the building.

The statement also mentioned that a drone crashed in an open area inside the UNIFIL headquarters on the 10th, and it was confirmed that the drone was unarmed. On the 5th, an armed drone, suspected to be launched by Hezbollah, crashed on the roof of a UN facility near Hiniyeh, without causing an explosion.

UNIFIL expressed increasing concern over the activities of Hezbollah armed personnel and the Israel Defense Forces near UN facilities, especially given the rising frequency of drone explosions. UNIFIL has lodged protests with both the Israeli and Lebanese sides.
