U.S. Aircraft Carrier "Theodore Roosevelt" Docks in Yokosuka for the First Time

Report Content

According to a report by Reference News on October 17, the U.S. Navy's nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt arrived at berth 12 of the U.S. Navy's Yokosuka base (located in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture) on the morning of the 16th. This marks the first time in about four years that a U.S. aircraft carrier not homeported in Yokosuka has docked at this base since the USS Abraham Lincoln in May 2022, and it is also the first time the USS Theodore Roosevelt has docked in Yokosuka.

On the 16th, the U.S. Navy announced that the USS Theodore Roosevelt will participate in the Japan-U.S. joint military exercise "Keen Sword," which will be held in the surrounding air and sea areas of Japan starting on the 19th. The carrier is expected to depart within a few days.

Currently, the USS George Washington, homeported at Yokosuka, is carrying out deployment tasks in the Middle East. Therefore, the docking of the USS Theodore Roosevelt and its participation in the exercise have certain significance in demonstrating the presence of U.S. aircraft carriers in the Western Pacific region.
