U.S. Media: The Trump Administration is Preparing for Face-to-Face Talks with Iran

On April 7, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington that the Trump administration is preparing for possible face-to-face talks between U.S. and Iranian officials.

The report cited U.S. officials as saying that both sides are currently working towards a long-term agreement to end the conflict between the U.S. and Iran. Given that both sides have just announced a two-week ceasefire agreement, the likelihood of holding these talks is increasing.

U.S. officials also stated that the talks are likely to take place in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, with Pakistani mediators present. U.S. Vice President Pence, Special Envoy Hook, and President Trump's son-in-law Kushner are expected to attend the talks.

White House Press Secretary McEnany confirmed to CNN that the U.S. and Iran are "indeed discussing face-to-face talks," but she also stated that "nothing is finalized until the President or the White House makes an official announcement."

On the evening of the 7th Eastern Time, Trump posted on social media that he agreed to pause bombings and attacks on Iran for two weeks, provided that Iran agrees to "fully, immediately, and safely" open the Strait of Hormuz.
