On June 2 local time, the U.S. Central Command stated that U.S. forces took action against a tanker heading towards an Iranian port in the Arabian Gulf, rendering it incapable of navigation.
The U.S. Central Command reported that the tanker "Lexie," flying the flag of Botswana, was en route to Iran's Khark Island at the time. The U.S. stated that the vessel had repeatedly ignored warnings and orders from U.S. forces within a 24-hour period and did not comply with relevant blockade measures. Subsequently, a U.S. military aircraft fired a Hellfire missile at the ship's hull, causing the tanker to lose power and be unable to continue its journey to Iran.
The U.S. Central Command indicated that since implementing blockade measures against maritime traffic in and out of Iranian ports on April 13, U.S. forces have incapacitated six commercial vessels and redirected 122 ships.
