U.S. Military Claims to Have Struck Iran in Response to Attacks on Commercial Ships

On June 26, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington that the U.S. Central Command issued a statement saying that U.S. forces conducted strikes against Iran on the same day in response to an attack on a commercial vessel passing through the Strait of Hormuz the previous day.

The statement indicated that U.S. forces launched airstrikes on Iran's missile and drone storage facilities as well as coastal radar positions. Previously, on the 25th, Iran had used a one-way attack drone to strike a cargo ship flying the Singapore flag that was leaving the Strait of Hormuz along the coast of Oman.

The statement accused Iran of violating the ceasefire agreement with its actions against commercial vessels, stating that U.S. forces would continue to provide safe passage coordination and support for commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. forces will maintain their presence and vigilance to ensure that all agreements reached between the U.S. and Iran are implemented and remain effective.

According to a report from the Iranian Tasnim News Agency early on the 27th local time, the U.S. violated the ceasefire agreement and memorandum of understanding with Iran by attacking the Sirik area. The report cited local sources saying that several explosions occurred in the Sirik area of Hormozgan Province around 11:30 PM local time on the 26th.
