A reporter from Fox News stated on social media that a U.S. official said, "These are very large crude oil tankers, ... massive empty vessels trying to return to Iran, forcefully breaking through the blockade."
According to Iranian media, explosions were heard in the Sirik region of Iran near the Strait of Hormuz on the 8th, with the cause unknown.
Seafarers from stranded vessels near the Strait of Hormuz provided two radio recordings to Xinhua reporters on the 8th, showing that two oil tankers were attacked that day and requested assistance. According to the reported vessel names "SEA STAR III" and "SEVDA" in the recordings, both ships are Iranian tankers.
