USS Washington departs from Yokosuka Base, Japan
Xinhua News Agency, Tokyo, May 10 - According to Japanese media reports on the 10th, the USS George Washington, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, completed maintenance in the morning and departed from the Yokosuka base of the U.S. Navy in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
The report stated that the USS George Washington returned to the Yokosuka base after completing its deployment mission in December 2025 and entered the maintenance phase. This departure is considered a trial run after the maintenance was completed.
The USS George Washington is currently assigned to the U.S. Navy's Seventh Fleet and is the first U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to be homeported in Japan. The ship was deployed at the Yokosuka base from 2008 to 2015, after which it returned to the United States for nuclear fuel replacement and a mid-life overhaul, and it will be redeployed to the Yokosuka base in 2024.
