On March 3 local time, reporters from the station learned that earlier that day, the Expert Assembly office building in Qom, Iran was attacked.
According to reporters, although the headquarters of the Expert Assembly is located in Tehran, many members of the Expert Assembly live in the central Iranian city of Qom.
The Expert Assembly is the highest authority responsible for electing, supervising, and dismissing the Supreme Leader of Iran. The Iranian constitution stipulates that in the event of the death, resignation, or dismissal of the Supreme Leader, the Expert Assembly should promptly select a new Supreme Leader. The constitution establishes the Expert Assembly as a permanent institution, composed of 88 jurists and religious scholars elected by popular vote.
