Video: Israeli Army Bombs a Major Bridge over the Litani River in Southern Lebanon

On the afternoon of March 22 local time, the Israel Defense Forces attacked the Qasmiya Bridge over the Litani River in southern Lebanon. A few hours earlier, the Israeli military had issued a warning that it would bomb the bridge to prevent Hezbollah from transporting personnel and weapons to southern Lebanon.

Israeli Defense Minister Katz also stated earlier that day that he and Prime Minister Netanyahu had instructed the military to immediately destroy all bridges over the Litani River used for "terrorist activities" to prevent the transportation of Hezbollah fighters and weapons to the south.

The Israeli military has recently attacked bridges in southern Lebanon multiple times. According to a Russian journalist who was attacked by the Israeli military while reporting locally, the Israeli military is attempting to isolate southern Lebanon from the rest of the country and is implementing "ethnic cleansing" in the area.

The Litani River originates in the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon and flows into the Mediterranean Sea north of the southern city of Tyre, with a total length of about 140 kilometers. It is the largest river in Lebanon and a major source of irrigation and drinking water for southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley. The Litani River is very close to the border between Israel and Lebanon, only 18 miles (approximately 29 kilometers) away. The water resources of the Litani River are particularly abundant, and there is a long history of competition between Israel and Lebanon over these water resources, as well as concerns about water resource disputes. Even before the establishment of Israel, the Jewish people at that time believed that the Litani River should be the northern border of Israel.
