Yuyuantan Tian: China's Coast Guard Achieves Law Enforcement Around Taiwan Island

On June 1, the Chinese Coast Guard Daishan ship fleet conducted law enforcement patrols in the waters east of Taiwan Island in accordance with the law. This is a necessary action taken in response to Japan and the Philippines unilaterally announcing the initiation of boundary negotiations in the waters east of Taiwan Island, which seriously infringes upon China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.

Marine expert Yang Xiao stated:

1. According to the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Exclusive Economic Zone and the Continental Shelf" and relevant international law, China can claim a 200 nautical mile exclusive economic zone and continental shelf based on Taiwan Island and its adjacent islands, and potentially has rights to the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles. I can also claim rights to the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf based on the Diaoyu Islands and their adjacent islands, which would create a large area of overlapping claims with the unilaterally demarcated waters by Japan and the Philippines. Japan and the Philippines unilaterally demarcating boundaries while disregarding China seriously infringes upon our territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.

2. The Chinese Coast Guard stated that it will continue to strengthen control over the relevant waters. This is a necessary action and a strong response to the unilateral demarcation by Japan and the Philippines. China is not the party actively changing the status quo, but is taking necessary countermeasures and self-protection against the destructive actions of Japan and the Philippines.
