Zelensky Talks with NATO Secretary General to Discuss Strengthening Ukraine's Air Defense Capabilities

He held talks with NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg and British Prime Minister Starmer, mainly discussing issues related to enhancing Ukraine's defense capabilities.

The report quoted Zelensky as saying that he discussed many issues with Stoltenberg, focusing on strengthening Ukraine's air defense capabilities and protecting the Ukrainian people from Russian attacks. He expressed gratitude to partners for providing funding to allow Ukraine to purchase "Patriot" air defense missiles and other weapons from the United States. They also discussed the situation in Iran and its impact on Ukraine and the whole of Europe.

Zelensky also introduced the situation of his talks with British Prime Minister Starmer. The "Ukrainian Truth" reported on the 18th that Zelensky stated he informed Starmer about the situation at the front, Russian attacks, and the weapons needed for Ukraine to ensure its security. They also discussed strengthening Ukraine's air defense system and the procurement of additional missiles for it. The leaders of Ukraine and the UK also signed a statement to enhance security and defense cooperation. The statement said that both countries would commit to establishing joint weapons production lines, joint research and development of drones, air defense systems, long-range missiles, and other weapons. The UK will continue to support enhancing Ukraine's defense capabilities and has committed to providing at least £3 billion in military assistance to Ukraine each year until 2031.

The Russian newspaper "Komsomolskaya Pravda" reported on the 17th that Zelensky's visit to the UK came against the backdrop of declining international attention to the conflict in Ukraine. Russian military expert Knutov stated that the British Prime Minister might decide to continue providing long-range missiles to Kyiv, which would lead to further escalation of frontline conflicts.
