From May 4 to May 15, the Swiss Air Force will deploy five F/A-18 fighter jets to Greece for the exercise. This exercise will take place in realistic scenarios, aiming to compare and enhance the military capabilities of various forces. The exercise also seeks to improve "multinational defense capabilities and develop interoperability between NATO and its partner countries."
Switzerland was recognized as a permanent neutral country at the Vienna Congress in 1815 and has not participated in any foreign wars since then, including both World Wars. However, following the escalation of the Ukraine crisis in 2022, Switzerland participated in Western sanctions against Russia, and the Swiss Armed Forces issued a policy document in 2023 calling for the federal government to strengthen military integration with NATO.
