Shenyang J-31

The Shenyang J-31, also referred to as FC-31 in export and development contexts, represents China's second major stealth fighter path after the Chengdu J-20. It began as a technology demonstrator and evolved toward potential export and naval fighter roles. Its significance is strategic as much as technical: it indicates China's ambition to develop multiple low-observable combat aircraft families.

Technically, J-31 uses a twin-engine layout with low-observable shaping, canted tails, diverterless-style inlet concepts, and internal weapons carriage assumptions. Public data remains limited, so the safest interpretation is capability-oriented rather than specification-heavy. The aircraft is intended to combine stealth, sensors, and multirole weapons integration in a smaller class than the J-20.
