Research Notes

Supersonic advanced trainer

T-50 Golden Eagle is South Korea's supersonic advanced trainer and light combat aircraft family.

The T-50 Golden Eagle was developed by KAI with Lockheed Martin support as a modern jet trainer for pilots moving toward frontline fighters. Its supersonic performance and fighter-like cockpit make it more capable than a basic trainer, while light-attack variants expand the family into operational combat support roles.

Training and light attack

The platform supports advanced pilot training, lead-in fighter preparation, and armed variants such as TA-50 and FA-50.

Modern air forces need trainers that prepare pilots for high-speed manoeuvre, radar and weapons procedures, digital avionics, and tactical decision-making. T-50 provides that training bridge, and its armed variants give smaller air forces a cost-effective light fighter. This dual role explains its export visibility.
