Late-war U.S. heavy tank answer
mediumM26 Pershing arrived late in World War II as the U.S. answer to heavier German armor.
The M26 Pershing was developed to give U.S. armored forces a heavier tank with a 90 mm gun. First Division Museum material notes that the T26E3 test tank was standardized as the M26 Pershing. Its late arrival limited World War II impact, but it marked a shift away from the Sherman-dominated wartime fleet.
