JLTV

The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle is a U.S. Army-led joint-service programme intended to replace a portion of older Humvee fleets with a better-protected, more mobile, and more networked light tactical vehicle. Oshkosh Defense won the original production programme with the L-ATV design.

JLTV balances mine and blast protection with off-road mobility, transportability, payload capacity, and modular mission kits. It gives units a vehicle that can carry communications, weapons, shelter, cargo, or command payloads while surviving threats that exposed or lightly armored light trucks could not withstand.

The JLTV matters because light vehicles are everywhere in modern armies: logistics, command posts, reconnaissance, convoy security, and weapons carriers. Upgrading that layer improves survivability and network access across a large part of the force, even if heavy armor remains essential for close combat.
