Saab describes Giraffe AMB as a multi-mission surveillance system for ground-based air defense, combining a C-band radar sensor with a scalable command, control, and communications solution in a self-contained ISO-container cabin. It is intended to create time to act by producing a real-time air picture for short- and medium-range air-defense units.
The system tracks aircraft, missiles, helicopters, UAVs, rockets, artillery, and mortar threats.
Giraffe AMB's value comes from simultaneous functions. Saab states that it can monitor 360-degree air volume, track fast aircraft and low-slow-small UAVs, and provide sense-and-warn functions for incoming rockets, artillery, and mortars. A one-second target revisit rate and fast deployment make it useful as both a mobile gap-filler and a local command post for defended assets.
