J-16D is a Chinese electronic-warfare aircraft derived from the J-16 fighter family.
The J-16D is intended to give the PLAAF a tactical electronic attack and suppression-support platform comparable in broad role to dedicated EW fighter derivatives. It is built around the J-16 airframe but visibly optimized for sensors, pods, and electronic-warfare mission equipment.
The aircraft trades some ordinary fighter emphasis for jamming, electronic support, and escort roles.
Electronic-warfare aircraft are valuable because they degrade enemy radars, communications, and missile systems while supporting strike packages.
