China's new-generation service rifle family
mediumQBZ-191 marks a major PLA shift away from the QBZ-95 bullpup pattern toward a conventional modular rifle.
The QBZ-191 is China's newer standard rifle family and represents a clear change in design philosophy from the QBZ-95 bullpup era. It keeps the national 5.8 mm ammunition concept but adopts a conventional layout better suited to optics, accessories, adjustable stocks, and modern infantry ergonomics. The family includes carbine, standard rifle, and designated marksman variants, indicating a complete infantry small-arms ecosystem rather than a single rifle.
