Overview
DH.110 Sea Vixen
The de Havilland DH.110, developed in response to British Admiralty requirements for a jet-powered, all-weather fighter, featured a twin-engine, twin-boom design with swept wings and advanced radar capabilities. Despite initial setbacks, including a tragic crash, it evolved into the Sea Vixen, the first British aircraft armed exclusively with missiles, rockets, and bombs, achieving supersonic speeds during flight tests.

Research Notes

Radar fighter adapted for carrier decks

Sea Vixen combined a radar-equipped crew station with naval features such as folding wings, reinforced landing gear, catapult fittings, and an arrestor hook. Its mission was to intercept hostile aircraft before they threatened the fleet, especially in poor weather or low-visibility conditions where radar control mattered more than visual detection.
