Pindad SS2

The Pindad SS2, or Senapan Serbu 2, is Indonesia's second-generation assault rifle family. It followed the SS1, itself derived from the FN FNC lineage produced under Indonesian arrangements. Pindad describes the SS2-V1 as the first model of its second-generation rifle platform, developed to improve performance for military and law-enforcement users.

The SS2-V1 is a gas-operated 5.56x45 mm rifle with a 30-round magazine, selector switch, folding stock, and effective range around 400 metres in Pindad specifications. Later variants adjust barrel length and role, including carbine and designated-marksmanship configurations. The family keeps NATO-calibre compatibility while increasing Indonesian design ownership.

Operationally, the SS2 is important because it gives Indonesian units a domestically produced 5.56 mm service-rifle family. It supports standard infantry use, training, competitions, and specialist variants without relying fully on imported rifles. Its continued evolution also gives Pindad a platform for export marketing and incremental national small-arms development.
